Hammer of the Gods
They come from the land of the ice and snow, from the midnight sun where the hot springs flow. That’s right, we’re talking about a medium-sized island in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean called Iceland. While Iceland has always given us stellar music, the past 2 decades have shown undoubtedly that this strange little place can truly deliver when it comes to unique, heavy bands. This year, Inferno Festival is hosting 4 of these acts. Three of whom, incidentally, have previously won Wacken Metal Battle Iceland. While 4 bands from the same country performing at a Norwegian metal festival may not seem like a lot, keep in mind that per capita, that's like if an Icelandic Festival hosted 55 Norwegian bands, 105 Swedish bands, or 60 Danish bands. Math and statistics aside, what else does Iceland have to offer? Should you book your band there? Should you record there? What’s the local scene like? Is lava safe to drink? Our panel of Icelanders are here to entice you.

Kári Haraldsson (IS)
Múr
Kári Haraldsson is the keytar-wielding frontman of Múr. He found himself seeking that odd instrument out when first trying to perform his synthesizer-driven compositions live, but his unique take on it has since become a signature part of his, and Múr's, image. His compositions tend to have a very atmospheric and cinematic sound, seeming to draw from his musical beginnings of scoring Icelandic films and tv-shows.

MOD: Gunnar Sauermann (DE)
Publicist SPKR Media / Freelance Journalist
Gunnar Sauermann is well known in the dark and hard music scene as a German freelancer writer and international publicist. He started out curating and moderating his local radio show Black Metal Art on the public station Oldenburg Eins in the late Nineties. His first printed story appeared in the German edition of Metal Hammer in 2001. Over time more magazines both at home and abroad published his writing. His main focus has always remained on the Norwegian black metal scene but that has never been exclusive. Sauermann’s work has also featured many bands from Britain, Finland, Iceland, Sweden, Romania, and elsewhere. It also covers a wide variety of musical styles. He joined Season of Mist as a publicist in 2008, and while working for the label lived eight years in France and later added two years in the Netherlands as head of promotion. In 2018, he was offered a position as senior press officer at the Wacken Open Air and relocated to Hamburg, Germany. Two years later, he returned to PR as head of promotion at Prophecy Productions and other labels under the umbrella of SPKR Media. Sauermann continues to work for the renowned German label in his sixth year now. In another life, Sauermann has studied and done-field work in iron age and early medieval archaeology. He has also studied comparative linguistics with a focus on Celtic and Germanic languages at the University of Marburg and University College Dublin. When he is not at his desk in Hamburg, Sauermann can often be found reporting from studios and tours, and visiting festivals all over Europe – and sometimes even across the oceans. When he is not at work or travelling, Sauermann has probably gone fishing.
