World Metal Congress presents: Metal vs. The Climate Crisis

In time for Earth Day, this round-table discussion will ask what the music industry and the live event and touring sectors can do to adapt to a more sustainable model, and what music fans can do to influence the drive for change in the face of the looming climate crisis.

Mod: Alexander Milas / World Metal Congress (UK) 

Alexander Milas is an erstwhile archaeologist, broadcaster, Kerrang! music journalist and award-winning editor-in-chief of Metal Hammer magazine. In 2017 he founded Twin V, a creative solutions and production company. 

In 2019 he launched the World Metal Congress, a celebration of heavy metal's global impact. His other projects include Space Rocks, a festival space exploration in partnership with the European Space Agency and the Heavy Metal Truants, a charity cycle ride which has raised nearly a million pounds for four childrens charities which he co-founded with Iron Maiden manager Rod Smallwood.

He is Eddietor of the official Iron Maiden Fan Club, head of the Heavy Metal Cycling Club. and works closely with Earth Percent, a climate action group. He has a cat named Angus. 


Fay Milton / Music Declares Emergency (UK)


Fay Milton is co-founder of Music Declares Emergency - a group of artists, music industry professionals and organisations that stand together to declare a climate and ecological emergency and call for an immediate governmental response. The group has now over 4000 signatories including some of the biggest artists, record labels, festivals and live promoters in the industry. 

Fay is also drummer in the London-based post-punk band, Savages, and producer of new collaborative project 180dB.  Savages have been nominated twice for the Mercury Prize and are critically acclaimed for their intense live shows.

Nika Brunet / MetalDays (SI)

Somewhere between project and event manager by title, with wide experience from music industry business, social sciences, marketing and communication, IT and even aeronautical science. Today she is responsible for organization and promotion of the biggest music festivals in Slovenia: MetalDays, Bluesland, New Metal Festival and new festival in Croatia - Headbanger's Holiday.


Vegan by heart, photographer by quest. Passionate about ecology, sustainability, and environment, in her (not so) free time also mini-chef in our plant-based food home-cooking kitchen... with a clear vision of the future where sustainable, low carbon foot-print, zero-waste events are not fiction anymore but a reality.

Lina Khatib is a co-founder of the World Metal Congress. She has served on Wacken Metal Battle juries, managed Middle Eastern extreme metal bands, and presented Lebanon’s first heavy metal show on national public radio.
